Conventions of music videos

conventions of music vidoes vary depending on the genre of music, however most music videos show the artists or artists singing in the video. The rest of the video most commonly will follow around the lyrics however from my research i have found out that artists do know generally follow lyrics word for word. The music tempo often drives the editing, for example if the song has a fast tempo then the cuts tend to be faster but if the song is slower the cuts will be shorter and be slow. The clothes that the artists wear tend to relfect the mood and genre of the music for example in foo fighters videos, the band tend to wear clothes that most punk rock bands would wear like dark coloured clothes, leather jackets. As I am studying Neo- Pyschedelia the clothing and mise- en scence, themes and performance must reflect this.

Ideas
Paulo Nutuni- Rewind

For this particular song, I will have two actors in this video, I will use a male as the main character, for the duration of the video he would be walking towards the camera with the camera focusing on him and his surroundings, however it would be in reverse and we would use the editing software to rewind it. It shows the audience that something bad has happened and that he can't go back. The whole of the video will be in rewind from a bad surroundings such as a run down street where it is raining, this would also reflect his mood at the time of being depressed, and lonely. I think we would film in a fairly secluded run down area in Hitchin and preferably film when the weather is quite dull, so we can successfully reflect his mood and also the mood of the song.

As the video progresses and rewinds further and further back, the audience begin to see everything happy and in a nicer mise-en scene looks much more happier and lively, around him there are dogs and young children running around and the man's expression on his face begins to slowly change as well to show that he was happy before and cannot go back to this in reality, the video ends by fading out.

Abba- slipping through my fingers

For this idea, I wanted to take a series of photographs of me when I was younger progressing throughout the video until I finally got older. I had a selection of photographs of important moments in my life when I was younger to use, as the oringinal song was about a mother's regret at how quickly her daughter is growing up, and the lack of time they spent together. I got the inspiration from the film 'Mamma Mia' a song based musical about ABBA, it is sang by Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried and is used when Donna her mother is helping her daughter Sophie get ready for her wedding. In the film Donna sings along with the song, reminscing their mother daughter time together but also regrets raising her daughter alone.

I particularly liked this song as it told a story and I felt by having photographs and videos would add a personal touch to the video.
The video would start off by having pictures of myself when I was born, to different camera shots of me and my mum and revealing the precious moments in many different images. As the film progesses the video will show pictures of me getting older and older, and giving the message that the song is trying to create of 'slipping through my fingers' and show how important mother and daughter time is.
I want to use quite a lot of images, but I do also want to keep the editing pace quite slow to fit in with the song, so I will only use the vital pictures that will fit in well with the song as well.I want to use special effects and think by using bright, vibrant colours it will convey the happiness of the song. The video will end with a zoom shot of a picture of me when I was younger.
